NOMADIC TENDENCIES FILM FESTIVAL OFFERS OVER 140 INDEPENDENT AND INTERNATIONAL FILMS TO THE LOCAL CULTURAL, ARTIST AND FILM COMMUNITIES
August 19, 2010

St Petersburg, FL — The Nomadic Tendencies Film Festival has partnered with the Florida Film Commission to bring over 140 independent films from new and emerging filmmakers from around the world to local audiences. 54 countries, 34 features, 107 shorts, 12 documentaries and 10 animated films from around the world will screen over a 10-day period from Sept 3rd -12th at 6 venues in and around St Pete with over 30 filmmakers attending. This is an opportunity to watch films that major distributors cannot afford to promote and bring to local audiences. The mission of the festival is to build a bridge between independent films and their audience.

This festival is created specifically for people who love film and are ready to see something new and different. Festival Director, Christine Scott, states, “The subject matter and genres are as varied as the people who seek out independent films. If you want something different, interesting and intelligent then this is the festival for you!” The festival venues are as varied as the films screening ranging from Muvico Baywalk 20 and the Beach Theatre to the Dali Museum and The Blueberry Patch. Scott explains, “Films are unique and deserve to be seen in appropriate environments based on the style and subject matter of a film. Therefore we’ve selected various locations based on genres, styles and subject matter. Film is an experience. We want you to enjoy the process!” The festival also offers a Florida Focus program highlighting new and emerging independent and student Florida filmmakers with a special opportunity to participate in the “Market Test” screening of Central Florida filmmaker Banks Helfrich.  Most of the films are Tampa Bay Premieres with only a dozen or so having screened anywhere in Florida and several being US Premieres. 7 panels will be offered thoughout the week focusing on various aspects of independent filmmaking. Panels consists of filmmakers currently screening at this year’s festival. Some of our films include familiar names such as Meryl Streep, Isabella Rossellini, Martin Landau, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Pine, Amanda Peet, James Earl Jones, Eric Roberts, Rosanna Arquette, Sandra Oh, William Shatner, Mark Hamill, Jason Alexander, Neil Armstrong and Joyce DeWitt.
